Day -1 and 0
Dunstable was achieved after a hot and slow journey via the M25. Crew, driving the Giant White Van, GWV, landed at Fleet services for an emergency snooze BP sat in the forward cabin. Only a few early arrivals so we had most of the campsite to dither over. Chose somewhere with a smidge of shade. Watched, with mild curiosity, someone erecting a tent. When he declared he had young children coming we moved further away.In an act of uncommon decency we lent him our 40m electric hookup cable, as we have solar and are too mean to pay £15 for the comp.
G Dale, an eminent celebrity glider pilot, actually hugs BP, he probably wants something as there is usually a blank stare. For the lowdown on him ask our own Mr Cook.. BP elected to heat up a chicken dish in the oven, this was a slight error as the inside of the van approached that of the surface of the sun. All windows open, we retired. Friday dawned hot and hotter. Domestic disaster as we only had one spoon to eat breakfast, the others being back at DGC. Meanwhile the six drum Munchen van Gelder winch was released. Wot a beast hydraulic drive to each drum, and large. The previous evening we had artfully sited the trailer at a corner, this allows maximum space to rig without the unwashed cluttering the place. As the winch was rather close we moved the trailer and rigged the LS. BP declines to fly, instead wandering off to get a site check. Airspace is rather complicated, and distressingly full of heavy tin going in and out of Luton. Reluctantly they granted her 20mins in a motorglider. They then had to repeat the exercise with another competitor as I had sold them the idea. Meanwhile the saintly crew fell to updating the competition airspace and turning point files on both Oudies. Crew also decided to update Flarm, which is where I saw PeterA in 1UP having a good time, nice flight. It was knocking 33° or more so we repaired to Dunstable Town to buy, inter alia, spoons, pork pies and a new camel bak. The car has aircon... Put the LS into covers. It is now cool enough to have a shower. Good job done by DP, CW and PM retrieving the tug, onwards and upwards.
